Presentation Abstract

Architecting Model-Based Engineering for a Defense System Services Business

  • Speaker: Gan Wang, Ph.D., BAE Systems Engineering Fellow and Chief Engineer, BAE Systems
  • When: Day 2 : Monday May 20th
  • As the aerospace and defense industry strives to embrace model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and digital transformation, organizations quickly realize that it is much more than just tools or modeling languages. It is a pervasive change involving people, process and technology, which requires a comprehensive strategy and the organizational commitment. This talk describes an ongoing investment effort to develop an enterprise-level, model-based engineering (MBE) capability and to transform its legacy workforce into adopting the model-based, digital engineering as the new way of doing business. It is a multi-pronged investment in technology, infrastructure, process, and people, and an incremental process of learning and experiment. The presentation also attempts to reflect on the journey to date and some of the early successes, huddles and challenges in implementing the digital strategy in a diverse defense business.
