Towards a Common Systems Engineering Method to Cover a Complete System Development Process

  • Model-based systems engineering (MBSE) is a young practice for developing complex systems. MBSE is the use of models to support systems engineering to both understand the problem and define a feasible solution to solve it. The promise of MBSE is to be capable to model and simulate progressively the system behavior in accordance to the needs & scenarios of usage, at any time. This promise is about avoiding the tunnel effect and to give to project stakeholders the continuous monitoring. If in Defense & Aerospace MBSE is a standard practice, in other Industries it is a novelty. One of the key success factors of MBSE is to apply the best practices based on a Systems Engineering methodology. Starting from a blank page is a commonly a show stopper.

    Before the acquisition of No Magic our both companies developed 2 different methodologies: Modeling Methodology for Systems (MMS) and MagicGrid®. Each of the method addresses a slightly different scope of system engineering processes and are focused on different tools. As the No Magic solution is being integrated to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, there is the need to develop a unified methodology to accelerate the efficiency of the complex system development and bridge the gap between system architects and product designers. This presentation will introduce the work in progress on this common and unique systems engineering approach.
