Presentation Abstract

The Use of MBSE and a Reference Architecture in a Rapid Prototyping Environment

  • Speaker: David R. Jacques - USAF Institute of Technology
  • When: Day 2 : Monday May 20th
  • Reference Architectures, many implemented using SysML, have been defined for a variety of purposes and domains of application.  Some of the reported benefits include knowledge capture and transfer, and guidance for creating new designs.  This paper discusses a Reference Architecture developed for the Small Unmanned Aircraft System (SUAS) domain, with the specific intent of improving Systems Engineering education and facilitating rapid prototyping cycles within a graduate engineering education and research environment.  The paper will present details of the Reference Architecture, the SUAS specialization track within Air Force Institute of Technology graduate school, and the experience and observations associated with the introduction of the Reference Architecture to the SUAS specialization track over the past year.  Future developments planned for the SUAS Reference Architecture will also be discussed.
